MEGA ENGINEERING IN THE STARS
Investigating the Extreme Strangeness of Tabby's Star BY ROBERT M. SCHOCH, Ph.D.
Over a thousand years ago, while European civilization stagnated during the Dark Ages, did a race of advanced extraterrestrials in a distant part of our galaxy build a huge energy-capturing mega structure around their sun? This may be the story behind an anomalous star known to astronomers as KIC 8462852 (KIC = Kepler Input Catalog of the Kepler space observatory).

ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE UFO
Is the Phenomenon Strictly Modern? Surprising Answers from Ancient Texts
BY FRANK JOSEPH
During September 1993, I was at the Cairo Museum, studying the life of Thutmose III. As the sixth monarch of the 18th Dynasty, he was the king of Egypt for fifty-four years, beginning in 1479 BCE, a period pertinent to my research at the time. Among documents I was allowed to inspect was an English language translation of the Tulli Papyrus.
FLYING MACHINES--THE DOWNSIDE
Do We Really Know How Planes Fly?
BY STEPHEN E. ROBBINS, Ph.D.
It is a certainty of this world that we know how airplanes fly. Simple: It is the curvature of the wing. The curvature causes higher velocity of airflow over the top surface relative to the bottom surface, thus causing "lift." So look at the picture below of the two planes in flight. Isn't something odd? How do planes fly upside down if curvature on the top surface of the wing is so all important? The new explanatory move has now become invoking the wing's "angle of attack"--also a wrong theory. As we shall see, the theory of lift is in disarray. What has been missing is an understanding of the charge field of the earth.

THE MEDJUGORJE APPARITIONS
Are the Miraculous Stories of Six Bosnian Children to Be Taken Seriously?
BY MICHAEL E. TYMN
Apparitions of Mary, the mother of Jesus of Nazareth, are not confined to the past and such long-time Catholic pilgrimage sites as Guadalupe in Mexico, Fatima in Portugal, and Lourdes in France. If the six "visionaries" from the village of Medjugorje in the country now known as Bosnia-Herzegovina (previously part of Yugoslavia) are to be believed, they are continuing today. In fact, they have been ongoing there since June 24, 1981, when some children witnessed the first such apparition.
THE SECRET OF AMERICA'S NAME
Can the Story You Learned in School Be the Whole Truth?
BY STEVEN SORA
We all know in 1492 Columbus sailed across the Atlantic and "discovered" America. Well, actually, Columbus did not believe that he had discovered anything. He believed that he had sailed to Asia. In fact he believed the natives he encountered were Indians (of the Indian subcontinent).
6,000-YEAR-OLD CAVE PAINTING MYSTIFIES EXPERTS
A mysterious cave mural, scientifically dated to 6,000 years ago, was on display in Jerusalem in November but, by now, may be back in storage. First discovered in the 1930s in an archaeological dig at Jordan's Teleilat el-Ghassul, just east of the Jordan River and north of the Dead Sea. "The Ghassulian Star" has been under lock and key in Jerusalem's Rockefeller museum ever since, ostensibly because of its fragile condition. A satisfactory explanation of its anomalous imagery, however, is yet to be forthcoming from the Israeli Antiquities Authority, or anyone else.
FRESH EVIDENCE: ANCIENT CIVILIZATION ON MARS?
The case for advanced ancient civilization on Mars has just taken a couple leaps forward. The discovery in December 2016 in an old 1999 satellite photo of what appear to be three gigantic, and precisely-aligned, towers is stirring excitement in the Mars anomaly research community. In the Terra Meridiana region, the Mars Orbital Camera (MOC) of the Malin Space Systems clearly shows three aligned and matching anomalous structures in the middle of a flat plain. Meanwhile, a new research paper virtually rules out a natural explanation for a strange 'keyhole' structure found in the Libya Montes area, where images from Mars Odyssey and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft show an anomalous combination of geometric features suggestive of "intelligent design."
DARK MATTER LOOKING DOOMED
Dark matter has never been the easiest thing for physicists to explain. It is enough to know that it is something which makes the equations of Newton's Law of Gravity and Einstein's General Relativity balance out, which has made it irresistible to scientists desperate to account for the motion of galaxies when there simply wasn't enough ordinary matter to explain things. It must be there, they reasoned, else their equations would be wrong. It was like having a hidden supply of money that could be used to pay bills. What's not to like?
MEDIEVAL GIANTESS FOUND
The controversial role of giants in history remains for many a fascinating theme in both myth and history. The recent discovery of a seven-foot-two-inch female skeleton in a medieval Polish church cemetery is causing a stir.
NAZI POLAR BASE LOCATED
The Nazis of World War II get credit--on the Internet and elsewhere--for much advanced secret technology, from flying disks, to atomic bombs; and for, yet undiscovered, secret bases beneath the ice in Antarctica, where, it is said, surviving storm troopers plotted to reverse the Nazi defeat. Now comes news that a previously lost Nazi base has been found in polar waters. The trouble for Nazi conspiricists is, it's the wrong pole.
NEW YORK TIMES DISCOVERS THE BRAZILIAN 'STONEHENGE'
Ten years ago, Atlantis Rising (#59, September/October, 2006), told you about the discovery of a 'Brazilian Stonehenge.' We reported that, over a hundred giant stone blocks driven into the ground--upright and evenly spaced, each weighing several tons and up to 10 feet tall--on a remote hilltop in the province of Amap appeared to have been carefully arranged so as to imply advanced knowledge of astronomy well before the arrival of European colonizers.
TITANIC FLASHBACK COMING TO CHINA
In Atlantis Rising #92 (March/April 2012) Michael Tymn wrote about the 1912 sinking of the Titanic and the many well-documented appearances by victims which occurred following the disaster. Now comes word that the ship itself will soon be seen again, but this time, we must confess, there is a perfectly 'natural' explanation--that is, if you think the plan by a Chinese resort company to build a life-size facsimile of the doomed ship is 'natural.'
Archaeologists have found, they say, unmistakable evidence that over 300,000 years ago, hominins were advanced toolmakers. A new study in the journal 'Scientific Reports' details research in Israel's Qesem Cave just outside Tel Aviv.
MAGNETIC THERAPY -SOMETHING NEW?
For years conventional allopathic medicine has derided magnetic therapies of all kinds as nothing more than quack remedies. At the same time holistic and alternative practitioners have actively promoted the benefits of magnets for many ailments. Now, ironically, it is mainstream medicine that is touting the benefits of a new antibiotic therapy based on magnetism.
THE BASQUE/ATLANTIS CONNECTION
The Mysterious Origins of a Very Ancient People
BY WILLIAM B. STOECKER
Although they now live all over the world--with a great many in the Western United States--the known homeland of the people called the Basques is in the western Pyrenees Mountains of southwestern France and northwestern Spain.
WHEN MAGNETISM IS NOT ATTRACTIVE
Understanding the Dangers Around Us
BY LOUIS PROUD
What we perceive with our eyes is less than one percent of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum, the range of wavelengths over which EM radiation extends. This tiny portion of the EM spectrum, called visible light, consists of the colors red through violet. Making up the remainder of the spectrum are extremely low frequency (ELF) waves, radio waves, microwaves, infrared, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays.
THE CAVES OF LASCAUX--PALEOLITHIC PLANETARIUM
Do these Magnificent Paintings Depict an Ancient Zodiac?
BY JULIE LOAR
Lascaux Cave, Grotte de Lascaux, is in the Vezere river valley in the Dordogne region of southwestern France. The cave is situated in an area rich in earlier prehistoric sites--caves, rock shelters, and settlements. The discovery of the cave paintings at Lascaux was first made public in 1880 and led to bitter controversy between experts, which continued into the early twentieth century. Many "experts" did not believe that prehistoric humans had the intellectual capacity to produce any kind of artistic expression, let alone the magnificent art on the cave walls. Acknowledgment of the authenticity of the paintings finally came in 1902 and changed forever the perception of prehistoric humans. The Lascaux paintings are dated to 17,000 years ago and have been called "the Sistine Chapel of Paleolithic Art."
DESIGNING INTELLIGENCE IN OUTER SPACE?
BY J. DOUGLAS KENYON
In our 74th issue (March/April 2009) 'Atlantis Rising' reported on a mysterious cloud formation observed on Saturn. An immense (15,000-mile diameter), perfect hexagon, shape was photographed by the NASA Cassini probe in the cyclonic clouds over the ringed planet's north pole. Adding to the mystery: it appeared to be a permanent feature--first spotted by the Voyager spacecraft over two decades earlier, it was unchanged in the Cassini image.
