THE UNEXPLAINED
LIVING FOR CENTURIES?
Should Ancient Tales of Extreme Longevity Be Taken Seriously?
BY WILLIAM B. STOECKER
One of the oddest claims made in the Old Testament concerns the age of the patriarchs, the Biblical figures who lived before the Flood and, for awhile, those who lived after it. Ten are listed before the Flood, including Adam, who supposedly lived to the age of 930. His son Seth reached the age of 912, Enosh 905, Cainan 910, Mahalel 899, Jarod 962, and Enoch was said to have been taken alive to Heaven at the age of 365. Methusaleh set the record at 969, followed by Lamech who lived until the age of 770, and Noah to 950.

ARCHAEOLOGY
THE SPHINX BREAKS ITS SILENCE
Hieorglyphs Say She Was the Lioness Mehit Who Guarded an Ancient Archive
BY ROBERT M. SCHOCH, Ph.D.
Over a quarter-century ago John Anthony West and I first formally announced our findings that the Great Sphinx of Egypt has its origins well prior to dynastic times. This was done in the context of a presentation at the October 1991 annual meeting of the Geological Society of America (which was only allowed after our formal abstract was submitted for peer review and accepted).

ALTERNATIVE SCIENCE
THE TRIALS OF THE SHROUD
Science vs. Faith--Why the Jury Is Still Out
BY MICHAEL E. TYMN
On August 26, 1988, The "London Evening Standard" carried banner headlines declaring the Shroud of Turin a fake. Radiocarbon testing at Oxford and two other laboratories dated it to the fourteenth century, and a leak from the Oxford lab resulted in a premature release of the news. As the story was picked up by media around the world, it was undoubtedly disheartening, if not shattering, to millions of Christians who had come to believe that the shroud was the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth, and the empty tomb served as proof that he had in fact risen from the dead.

ALTERNATIVE ARCHAEOLOGY
ANCIENT HIGH TECHNOLOGY
Debunking the Myth of 'Primitive' Ancestors
BY FRANK JOSEPH
In its September issue, "Atlantis Rising's" (#125) reported on a piece of "40K-Year-Old Jewelry" (pg. 14) newly discovered in eastern Russia. An artificial hole in the Siberian chlorite bracelet "required a high-speed drill" to create, using "a tool 30,000 years ahead of its time." Such a find contradicts mainstream archaeological opinion denying ancient man anything but the most rudimentary material culture. But the ice age bangle is only one among many recent examples of surprisingly sophisticated technology centuries, even millennia, before the advent of our so-called "Modern Age." More...

LOST HISTORY
THE BIRTH OF A TEMPLAR NATION
How the Knights Templar Created Europe's First Nation-State and a Refuge for the Grail
BY FREDDY SILVA
On Easter Sunday 1118 Baudoin de Bourcq was chosen as the new king of Jerusalem. Barely had he gotten used to his newly appointed seat when he received a visit from Hugues de Payen and Godefroi de Saint-Omer, as though the two intrepid knights were presenting credentials.

ALTERNATIVE NEWS
NEANDERTHAL MULTIPLICATION
Just a few years ago we were taught that Neanderthals were just shambling brutes, with little intelligence, and who, were no match for their more advanced cousins, our modern human ancestors. In recent years, though, we have been told to forget all that. Neanderthals have turned out to be as smart, if not more so, as humans, with many of the same abilities, and then some--albeit thousands of years earlier.

AMERICA'S CHEROKEE ROOTS
The ancient ancestry of America's Cherokee Indians is getting increased scrutiny. Currently, several DNA firms market tests that can be ordered online to determine whether or not one has Cherokee in the family tree. Some of the data derived, it is said, suggests that Cherokees originated in the Middle East or North Africa.

RETURN TO THE 'HALL OF RECORDS'?
Back in the 1990s sensational discoveries on the Giza plateau near Cairo, Egypt, led millions to wonder if forgotten ancient forebears--maybe even Atlanteans--had, perhaps, left behind a 'hall of records,' which might soon be discovered. Now, a new academic paper by frequent Atlantis Rising contributors Dr. Robert Schoch and Robert Bauval, joined by independent researcher Manu Seyfzadeh, is revisiting the ancient quest for such a lost cache, or 'hall' of records, in Egypt.

NEW SCIENTIFIC SCRUTINY FOR ANCIENT 'GIANTS'
While most ancient Egyptians were, by modern standards, quite small, there was at least one notable exception. The pharaoh Sa-Nakht of the Third Dynasty, around 2700 BC, a towering 6 foot, 1.6 inches, would have been the nearest thing most ancient Egyptians ever saw to a giant. Or was it?

NANO HEALING
For alternative health practitioners, the possibilities of using exotic electricity for therapy have been offered to a few for over a century. Some, like Raymond Rife, Wilhelm Reich, and John Worrell Keely, paid with jail time and economic hardship, for their pioneering, if sometimes bizarre, work--their ideas ridiculed as mad science, akin to those in the story of Frankenstein. Now, however, it looks like mainstream science may have begun to come around, with some weird, but electrifying, discoveries of its own.

FROM COSTA RICA TO BOSNIA, STONE SPHERES YET UNEXPLAINED
Another massive, near-perfect, stone sphere has been unearthed in Costa Rica. Weighing as much as 25 tons, some as large as six feet in diameter, about 300 such spheres have turned up so far; but, as yet, no one has provided a satisfactory explanation for their purpose or method of construction. Similar balls have been found recently in Bosnia. Archaeologist Sam Osmanagich says most of them are in the vicinity of Zavidovici. The largest weighs close to 30 tons.

CAREERS BECKON FOR ASPIRING PLANETARY PROTECTORS
Fans of "Guardians-of-the-Galaxy" movies, and other such entertainment fare, may wonder why Earth offers so few career opportunities with anything like the excitement they demand. But, we can report, a new day may be dawning for ambitious would-be protectors of Earth and its denizens.

IAPETUS FINGERED AS 'DEATH STAR'?
Anyone viewing the Cassini spacecraft flyby image of Saturn's moon, Iapetus, may find it difficult not to notice its resemblance to the notorious "Death Star" of Star Wars. According to space researcher Richard Hoagland (author of "The Monuments of Mars"), there may be even more reason to see a connection.

IS THE UNIVERSE CONSCIOUS?
For modern materialist scientists, the world must seem a scary place. While many dispute the very existence of consciousness, they now find themselves facing growing opposition from within their own ranks.

ANCIENT MYSTERIES
VINDICATION FOR EASTER ISLAND PEOPLE
There Was No 'Ecocide' Here, but its History Still Baffles the Experts
BY MARTIN RUGGLES
For a while now, the politically correct rap on ancient Easter Island has been that its people committed environmental suicide. But in July 2017, a new paper published in The American Journal of Physical Anthropology virtually debunked what has become one of popular 'science's' more cherished memes--the notion that, in an act of 'ecocide,' the islanders recklessly trashed their own habitat.

REVISITING THE MAYAN CALENDAR
2012 Is History Now, but Carl Johan Calleman Is Still Looking for Secrets
BY ROBERT MENDEL
It's rare to find a model of the cosmos that unites science with ancient mythology. It's even more remarkable to claim that this model has been hidden in the architecture of the Mayan calendar system, waiting to be decoded. In the past ten years Carl Johan Calleman, Ph.D., has written five books to establish his theory that the Mayan calendar chronicles the evolution of the universe and human consciousness from its inception to the present day.

LOST HISTORY
MASONIC SINGAPORE
The Esoteric Beginnings of the World's Richest City
BY STEPHEN V. O'ROURKE
The tiny country of Singapore is a twenty-first century economic powerhouse. In recent surveys it has been shown that Singapore has more millionaires per households than any other country in the world. In a 2012 report, the tiny country was ranked number two in economic competitiveness. From its founding, Singapore seems to have been blessed with good economic fortune.

ANCIENT WISDOM
THE ASTRONOMERS OF SKARA BRAE
How Much Do We Owe These Neolithic Geniuses?
BY STEVEN SORA
In 1850 a powerful storm hit the Orkney Islands. It literally blew what had been the turf roof off a megalithic complex that no one had known was there. The importance of this prehistoric village was not immediately recognized. But, we now know, it may be the birthplace of the earliest study of astronomy and the creation of an architecture that reflects the principle of "as above, so below." Long before the Egyptians built their own monuments to mirror the cosmos, the people of these remote islands were practicing a very advanced science of their own.

THE OTHER SIDE
SPACE TRAVEL OF THE MIND
The Case of Camile Flammarion--Ahead of His Time, and Then Some
BY JOHN CHAMBERS
Most astronomers of the modern era observe the heavens scrupulously and meticulously calculate its measurements; they believe only in what they can see, even if that vision is an expanded one and extended across both the visible and invisible electromagnetic spectrum.

THE FORBIDDEN ARCHAEOLOGIST
MOROCCO HOMO SAPIENS--A SMALL STEP FORWARD?
BY MICHAEL CREMO
When my book, "Forbidden Archeology," was published in 1993, the oldest bones of anatomically modern Homo sapiens (accepted by mainstream science) were from the Border Cave site in South Africa and were about 100,000 years old. So in my writings and lectures about my work, I would say I am demonstrating there is anomalous archaeological evidence showing that humans like us existed before 100,000 years ago.

ASTROLOGY
THE MYTHIC CODE
Understanding the Signs and Symbols of Astrology
BY JULIE LOAR
The zodiac is a belt of sky within about eight degrees on either side of the ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun, and the orbital path of the Moon and planets.

PUBLISHER'S LETTER
EYE-OPENING ANCIENT WISDOM
BY J. DOUGLAS KENYON
One of our faithful readers, a frequent letter writer, wants to know if we "believe that the Bible has truths that answer many of the questions to [Atlantis Rising]." He thinks we should devote more space to "Christian answers." Even though we talk in these pages a lot about subjects with religious implications, this is not a religious publication; and we try to stay out of matters that we consider mostly personal. In this case, though, we will comment.
